He obtained a BA (hons) in Jazz performance from Leeds College of Music and an MMus in performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (by award of the silver bow scholarship). He studied electric/acoustic bass with Garry Jackson, Steve Watts, Zoltan Dekany and the late Jeff Clyne and harmony-arranging-improvisation with renowned jazz educators Nikki Iles, Tim Garland, Scott Stroman and Pete Churchill.

 

As a teacher he had been managing and leading a BTEC Level 3 Pop Music performance course for over three years and has been teaching one-on-one and privately since 1998. He has prepared students for rock school examinations, coached student ensembles as well as assessing student coursework for Edexcel.

Nick’s experience ranges from critically acclaimed travelling stage performances (‘The Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular’ and ‘The Moon Light Serenade Orchestra’) through a wide variety of live entertainment shows in holiday camps across the country to performances in the Jazz Lounge tent at Glastonbury and in an orchestra of 150 musicians for the world premiere of John Cage/Merce Cunningham’s Ballet ‘Ocean’ in the Roundhouse. He has been performing in various jazz clubs and concert halls in Leeds and London - Ronnie Scotts, The Royal Festival Hall, Vortex, Wardrobe, The Roundhouse, Hifi Club, Toulouse Lautrec among others
